Soy Wax

Soy Wax

Soy wax, hydrogenated Glycine soja (soybean) oil, melts at about 100 degrees, which is only slightly warmer than body temperature, making it a great ingredient for a lotion candle or massage candle. Our vegan soy wax, FDA-regulated for food consumption, is made from 100% pure soybean oil, a natural moisturizer that will make your skin silky smooth!

Natural Organic Body Lotion and Massage CandleSoy wax contains vitamin E and has antioxidant properties.  It is also soft, and creamy, will help lock in moisture, and is reported to help with skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, cracked skin, cracked heels, and rough cuticles.

Special Notes: Buyer Beware

Organic Soy Wax? Be suspicious of companies claiming to use "organic" soy wax, because there is no such thing. Any wax that is made from a liquid vegetable oil requires hydrogenation to convert it from liquid to solid. While hydrogenated fats are linked to cardiovascular disease and should not be a part of your diet, in a skin care product they simply moisturize the top layers of the skin (stratum corneum) and can not be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Since USDA Organic standards have been developed for the food industry, the waxes made from hydrogenated liquid oil cannot meet "Organic" Certification standards. If a company makes the organic claim, ask to see the organic certificate!!

Non-GMO Soy Wax? We would love to purchase only non-GMO soy wax and do so whenever certified non-GMO wax is available. Unfortunately, since more than 90% of the US soybean crop has been genetically modified, most non-GMO soybeans are used for food products or oil, and thus non-GMO wax is not often available. Our soy wax comes from a company that tests the wax for any presence of and guarantees no GMM (Genetically Modified Material), as well as no herbicides and pesticides. This does not necessarily mean that the original soybeans were GMO-free. But in a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) it is the DNA that is modified, which is located in the protein of the soybean, NOT in the oil. Be wary of companies claiming to use only Non-GMO soy wax.

Why do we use soy wax? We received so many requests to make our body candles vegan. There is no other vegetable wax that melts at that perfect temperature for a body candle.
